DIY stores may stock it, not sure I'm afraid.
As for the bicarb idea, personally I wouldn't, as I'm quite certain my friend would have suggested it. He should know as he only has 30 acres of hops on his farm!

Hi chaps,
I got my prima donna plant a couple of weeks ago and I've just managed to get it outside. Hopefully I'm doing things correctly.
Unfortunately I've also discovered some powdery mildew although it seems minimal. I removed the infected leaves.
Oddly enough milk seems to be a reputable treatment for powdery mildew. I'm all for hardcore chemical treatments but if this works it could be a cheap remedy.
How are you all getting on with yours?

It certainly looks like you know what your doing! Your plant looks great, it's great inspiration to us all. I'll try milk before trying anything else. Mine are still both looking very sorry, however the prima donna's top leaves look a bit better, I'll get a pic later.

Cheers L2wis. I used 1 part milk to 9 parts water as recommended. To be honest I seem to have been lucky with my plant as the mildew is negligible. I Hope you manage to get yours sorted.

Thanks m8, I'm sure mine will sort themselves out sooner or later. Might just cut them right back to ground level soon.

Hey all, been a while since last posting in here, I ended up removing all the leaves from my prima donna but check out the pics below! it's grow back a winner! Not such good news for the golden tassles however, it got really bad so i just chopped that back to ground level. I dunno if milk did the trick on the prima donna but it appears to have! Lets hope it doesn't all come back.

have i got an austrailian plant by the way? Every time i twine my bine clockwise around the string it un-ties itself? Because it kept unwounding itself i've twisted it on anti-clockwise and appears to be happy with it now.

Glad to see your hops have recovered, but anti-clockwise just ain't right! Think you've got a mutant hop!

It's mad isn't it!? The first time I thought the wind must have unwound it so retwisted it in, then next day it was all loose again. Do I did it the other way and it seems quite happy! Odd isn't it!?

Just thought I'd update you on my hop plant.
Well its dead. Well theres absolutely no sign of growth anyway.
Cut it back to the ground after all leaves died and a month on - nothing. So I dug a little at rhizolm and theres no root growth either.
After this I emailed Tomatoseedsuk to request a replacement plant, politely of course with pics.
And 3 days later - I've been bumped, no reply at all.
Whenever I emailed regarding a question about hops I usually got a reply within hours.
Leave it a little longer and I'll have to send a second more sterner email.

That's bad luck. If it is not growing by now then I suspect it will not grow. If you get no response to the email then I suggest writing a letter and sending it recorded delivery.

Sorry to hear about your dead hop, I suspect they may not have replied yet as they wont be able to send you a replacement, as any they have will probably be 10ft tall by now (Sorry not trying to rub it in). They may have to give you a refund.

Hey all, another mini update. There are signs of life in my golden tassles in the last couple of days a couple of very small leaves have appeared out of the ground! (I cut it back to ground level). The prima donna is still okay, I removed a couple of leaves that looked a little worse for wear mind you...
Also it's growing clockwise now

(Must have been the wind unwinding it).
