Centennial Hops

Post by crow_flies » Fri Oct 20, 2006 6:58 pm

I received some centennial last week, thought I'd experiment with them. Anyone ever used them or got any good recipes?

Yeah, they are great if you like American hoppy ales. To me I find they give a slight sherbet flavour. I like them a lot.

I have added two recipes that use them to the Recipes section. Hop Devil IPA and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. I have brewed both and they were delicious.

Alternatively if you want a good idea of the properties the hop adds to a beer you could brew a single hop ale using it for bittering flavour and aroma with a simple grain bill. I think that would turn out really well.

Really nice hop. I made a single hop Centennial IPA once and it was good.

SNCA sounds good I might brew that soon.

Here in the U.S., a brewery called Bells makes an IPA called Two Hearted Ale that uses Centennial exclusively and its very good.

That's the way Ted. Push those nasty American hops so there will be more of the good Brit stuff left for me.
