Styrian Goldings

Post by Immy's Dad » Sat Oct 21, 2006 10:16 pm

I have ordered some of these and also have some Fuggles and East Kent Goldings. I read that these are aroma hops mainly, my question is this: Will they add any flavour and if so, is this any good?

I brew kits at the moment which I hope to enhance with my hoppage. Bittering is no problem but I'd like more flavour and aroma.

Cheers chaps. :-k

Styrian Goldings are an excellent hop ID 8) They add an extremely pleasant citrusy flavour as a late hop - used, for example, in Bitter and Twisted

Just bought some of these from Stockport brew shop for my upcoming Hobgoblin brew. First time I've used them too.

Great hop with a slightly lemony flavour.

Tried half a dozen ales last night at JDW Autumn Beer Festival. On the whole they were disappointingly bland and watery ( Beartowns Bear Ass took the wooden spoon by a country mile ).
However had a great pint of this one

SA Gold is a full-flavoured, hoppy and refreshing golden ale, brewed at the home of the famous Brains SA in Wales. Careful use of Target hops creates a satisfying bitterness, perfectly balanced by vibrant citrus aromas and complex hop flavours from late-hopping using Cascade and Styrian Goldings. A deliciously satisfying and refreshing pint!
ABV 4.7%

Going to have a go at this one when current stocks of hops used up ( not used any of these before). Judging by comments on this topic the styrian goldings was the hop responsible for the flavour I liked so much.

I made a single hopped beer at the weekend with a full 75 grams of Styrian Goldings aroma hops at the end of the boil - we'll see what happens!

Yeah, 35 IBUs in a 1.054 OG beer plus about 20 grams 15 minutes before the end.

I like just using one hop to get a feel for what they bring to the beer.

Prepare to suck those cheeks

I don't know why but thses hops seem to have a more bitter taste than the IBU suggest....but they're fab

My brew was right on the limits of the level of bitterness I like in a beer, ie, 3 or more pints and your stomach says NO MORE :D

We shall see!

Didn't you use the higher AA Aurora super styrian hops in your beer?
