Recommended Hops variety

Post by umamb » Thu Nov 26, 2015 3:43 pm

I am looking to buy some Hops plants as a present but I dont know much about the different varieties.
The person I am buying it for would prefer to make ales rather than a lager.
I am interested in getting the fuggle but I wanted to get another to add to this.
I read that the Gelding mixes well with the Fuggle but others have said a Hop with a higher alpha value would be better.

Does anyone have a recommendations as to a good starting Hop and any combinations that mix well.

In addition to this I am planning to buy the Hops from Willingham-nurseries, does anyone have experience with them ? Are they good ?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't grow hops myself but I know that First Gold is a good option, which is native to this country and it's a dwarf variety so more manageable. It's also a great, dual purpose, hop to brew with. I love First Gold hops. I think they sell them as Prima Donna variety.
