Growing Hops

Post by GeezyPeezy » Tue Jan 10, 2017 10:02 pm

Hi,

I've had a Cascade bare root plant bought for me for my birthday.

I was wondering where would be the best place to plant it, how deep to plant it, what to plant it in (compost and fertiliser), how long before I start to see some useable hops and how to harvest and dry said hops?

Thank you
Gaz

Can't be arsed to keep changing this bit, so, drinking some beer and wanting to brew many more!

simply, ideal planting would be in sandy soil with about 2m sq of area if can expand/grow in,
the rhizomes (thick roots) spread out a few inches below the surface..

when it sprouts cop back all but 3-4 vines and call em bines not vines ;)

after harvest DONT cut the bines down or back leave them intact to continue to harvest sunlight to feed the roots, when the leaves have died back then prune off the bines

have fun....
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

DO NOT cut anything back in the first year. Let it all grow to aid root establishment! ONLY in the second year reduce the number of bines left to grow!!!
