Anyone familiar with hops from Dark Rock Brewing? I got some Challenger and the packaging only gives a range (5-9%) for the alpha acid content. First time I've seen a measured AA% missing from a hop pack. I'm not hugely bothered, but would prefer something to work with. I'll just have to assume an AA% of about 7 for the recipe.
Dark Rock Brewing Hops AA%?
Re: Dark Rock Brewing Hops AA%?
Could that be read as 5.9% ? The latest Challenger hops that I have are 7.6% that's not too far off midway between 5 and 9

If you bought them recently then it looks like they could be 7.1%
Cheers Tom

It could be a typo, dash instead of dot. Judging from the BBD (30NOV2025), they could be from 2023’s crop. I just assumed they were 7%. Just gone in @ 60 minutes. I’m sure the beer is going turn out fine regardless. I remember when I just used to follow Graham Wheeler’s recipes without considering the actual AA% of the hops, just the suggested weights, and they always turned out fine.
Re: Dark Rock Brewing Hops AA%?
Definitely a typo, they are one of my local brew ingredient suppliers, and have been around for years. All of the latest batches of hops I’ve bought have the same dash instead of a decimal point, one batch was Galaxy which specifies 12-20% which gives it away really!
Re: Dark Rock Brewing Hops AA%?
I’ll use 5.9% in the next recipe then.
