Is starter working

Post by Jymbo » Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:16 am

I made a 2L starter last night using 200g of light DME and a smack pack of Wyeast Irish Ale yeast and followed the instructions religiously. Took a look this morning and noticed a bit of a slurry on the bottom but no activity arount the head - is this OK? I've not done this before so I'm not sure what to look out for to make sure that the starter is working, although I guess I expected some krausen ariound the top.

Anyway, i gave it a shake, sat the bottle in some warm water to raise the temperature a bit and wrapped it in a fleece to keep it warm while I'm at work. I'm planning to put poPs stout on tomorrow so I be grateful for any advice on how to tell if it's ready or not.
Kegged: 'Nowt
Bottled: Summer Lightning, Belfast Ale, JPA, Guinness Foreign Export

Give it a bit more time, you might notice a few bubbles tonight.
