Morrison's "The Best" bottle Conditioned Ale

Post by Parp » Mon May 12, 2008 7:08 pm

Hello all,

Once again, a yeast question from the Parpmeister! :?:

The Beer states that it's brewed by the Freeminer brewery.

Has anyone successfully started up this yeast?

And is it the primary ale yeast, or a bottom fermenter stck in for bottling?

Cheers

How do Parp - I cultured it up once and e-mailed the brewery to see if it was their primary yeast strain.

I had my e-mail returned stating that the e-mail address wasn't valid. From memory the yeast was pretty flocculant and smelled OK. That said, I wasn't brave enough to chance it on a batch of wort I'd spent all afternoon preparing so it went down the crapper and I drafted in the ever reliable S04. Call me a chicken but I figured I'm better safe than sorry

Isn't the brewery somewhere down near Daab?

Edit: On a related note I have used Hopback, Brakspear and Fullers yeast from bottle conditioned beer with good results.

It's a forest south of Richmond, that's south enough for me

Had a bottle of the Morrison's last night, an excellent brew!

6% and a sort of deep red colour, malty but with plenty of hops.

I'm going to hang on to two bottles to try and reculture.

Watch it turn out to be S-04 in there

I used this yeast my notes on 28/03/7 say "very clean, refreshing 7/10, only Morrisons any good from bottle conditioned beers" I did an experiment and cultured up from 6 BC beers.

I drank both remaining bottles last night.

The sediment is minimal to say the least.

Did you have to grow the starter a number of times?

Yes I think I started it in a milk bottle than transferred to 1 gallon demijohn
