Saving yeast slurry

Post by scarer » Thu May 22, 2008 1:10 pm

I racked a 23L lager yesterday that I had used wyeast 2206 bavarian in and kept the slurry and some wort and put them in a 2Lt pet bottle in the fridge. There seems to be approx 3/4 litre slurry and 1 lt of wort.

Can I use this again and how do I go about working out how much to pitch.

NB The lager was fermented too warm 12-18C although the finished product tastes great.

I've done this recently with lager yeast, it worked really well. I just kept the yeast in a kilner jar in the fridge for a couple of days.

I ended up pitching 3/4 of what I collected, use the calculator here to get an idea : http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html

There's a re-pitching from slurry tab. It's going to be in the region of 200ml per 5 gallons for lager.

How long will it keep for in the fridge?

I've kept yeast in the fridge up to six months with good results. I make a starter if it's been more than 3-4 weeks since I saved it.
