Has anybody frozen yeast and successfully revived it to make a beer? I like the idea of saving yeast for new batches, but I am sure that the wife wouldn't be too happy if I used up quite so much fridge space for long term storage of yeast.
If I could freeze the stuff then this would be much better....

There is an article in the Craft Brewers Association journal, brewers contact, about this. Go to

then click on subject index, move forward to 'yeast culture and storage', then you'll see 'Freezing yeast'. Click on that and it'll bring up the journal with the article in it

I've had a go at freezing yeast. I 1/3 filled a sterile test tube with yeast then 1/3 filled with Glycerin.
Having been in the freezer for a few weeks, I tried to make up a started to use in my Turbo Cider. It did start again but took about 3 days to get there (by which time I had decided it was dean and used bread yeast instead). I am now using Jim's method of storing yeast in small plastic PET bottles in the fridge. Have not tried reusing one of them yet but hopefully it will work better.
