spliting yeast starters

Post by bod » Sat Apr 07, 2007 11:15 am

i was going to buy a few liquid yeasts (WLP002 and WYEAST1007) and split them up using jims tips.
but i was wondering how long you can keep a yeast starter in the fridge after its been poured into a few bottles?

answers on a postcard please.....

I've kept them for over 6 months. The longer you leave them, the slower they are to start up when you make your starter, though.

Jim's method has worked great for me so far. I plan on trying it with a cider yeast (apple juice in place of DME).

the last time i tried this i only split it into two, this time im going for about 6 , the other half is rather suspicious about my latest urge to collect empty juice bottles though :) shes going to go mental when she finds out what theyre for
