Post by RabMaxwell » Sun Aug 20, 2006 10:40 pm

Hello Guys was wondering if anyboby has used Young's dried 100g beer tubs.I have sent young's an email asking the origin Flocculation Attenuation ECT but haven't had a response as yet. :wall
I am getting fed up making large starters as i brew 110 litres and don't really have the the time to do them properly as i work away 2 weeks a month.I am looking at buying DCL or other in larger packs .But cant seem to find much information about Young's yeast.Any info welcome.
Cheers

Young's Yeast think it might be the worst i have ever tried

Hello all just got home from working in north sea. :) First thing i done was taste my scottish heavy that's been in my conditioning tank for 3 weeks yiks it tastes like bread. :( I had tried young's dried yeast you get in 100g tubs. :x I think i will use the rest as yeast nutrient in the kettle. The Bready flavour might go away with aging though .I was thinking of trying some safale us 56 yeast does anyone know where you can buy it in 500g in the uk.On a good note my heather all made with safale 04 turned out excellent although unusual but very drinkable. Cheers Rab maxwell(Brewing in Ayrshire)

larger 500g bags of dried yeast can be bought here http://www.wellhopped.co.uk/DCL.htm

i used youngs lager yeast (most probably similar to saflager i have been told) for my hoegarden clone. i have never used the 100g tubs for beer making (have brewed a good turbo cider with it though)
