A two page thread in May in which the question is not answered and in which Pattered Ale does not post. Conclusive evidence of both his reasoning and the "done to death nature" of this topic. Thanks ... so much... for your insight and help.
Calm yourself fella. I have always found Rob to be a very helpful and straightforward chap. My reasoning thus, is ask him about his products.
Rob is clearly aware of the question as he posts in the thread stating that the west coast yeast is not US05, he chooses not to answer the question posted directly for whatever reason. Fair enough, I have no problem with him making that choice, but I don't see how it helps to ask him again.

Beer O'Clock could have just directed anybody reading this thread to look at the other one with out the "maybe just ... maybe" and the rolling eyes. My tone and partial parroting of his style was in response to that. Whatever, I don't see much mileage for anybody in having a protracted row over the interwebs about this.

It's too bad this turned ugly, because I still don't think there's a clear-cut answer, but here's what I think:

NBS Ale Yeast = Danstar Nottingham
NBS Ale Yeast 2 = Mauribrew Ale 514 "English Ale" (AB Mauri Y514)
NBS Belgian Saison Yeast = Danstar Belle Saison
NBS West Coast Style Yeast = Danstar BRY-97 "American West Coast", from Siebel BRY-97 which is not the same as Siebel BRY-96/Sierra Nevada/Chico
NBS Weiss Yeast = either Danstar Munich Wheat Beer Yeast or Mauribrew Weiss (AB Mauri Y1433), which are not the same strain

A while ago a certain dried yeast manufacturer (not danstar) got their panties in a ruffle as people were repacking their yeast and refused to supply, or something like that. Maybe less said the better!

Tried the Saison, thought it was great (bit more testing to do), always up for dried yeast if it does the trick. Cheers.

Why would you want to buy repackaged yeast of any description, during the repackaging process it is going to be exposed to oxygen and to a lesser extent moisture and more importantly bacteria - the viability of the yeast will have decreased.

I would sooner just have an educated guess at the yeast strain and find it in its original packaging even if its 50p more.

Might not be repacked. The rest is debatable at the least, there's probably a micro-biologist somewhere to clear it up without it turning into a big flame of speculation.

testtube,

reduced yeast viability is not speculation or is it debatable, as soon as the dried yeast is exposed to oxygen it will start using up its glycogen reserves. Im not a micro biologist but am currently studying it.

If it is being repackaged i very much doubt it is being done aseptically, so contamination could be a problem.

What is debatable is the effect it may have on the production of homebrew i.e. will it be noticeable - probably not.

All i am saying is if it is a re packaged produced then there could be possible issues.

There are bugs in yeast packets, acetic acid bacteria, pediococcus, lacto, wild yeast and pathogenic stuff.. apparently. Will the rest stop happening in the fridge or freezer?

Yeah but they're guaranteed within tolerances that won't affect your brew.

I miss the repackaged dry yeast . It was half the price and worked just fine.
I've boycotted a certain yeast manufacturer that rhymes with "Germentis" ever since....
