Although the 11g packs are fine for 5 US Gallons for most regular ales, you might need to add another pack to reach the Mr Malty advised pitching rate for a barley wine etc. That rate is a very good pitching rate though. I'm convinced most people using liquid yeasts don't get close to that rate. You end up with starters nearly as big as your main brew! In that case I'd rather brew a smaller beer first and repitch - for example a Belgian pale ale then repitch into a dubbel or trippel.dartgod wrote:When you use dry yeast and brew high gravity or lager beers do you just pitch multiple packs????
For lagers, where it's probably best to pitch cold for flavour, it would be a good idea to pitch two dry yeast packs anyway. If you pitch warm then you'll be fine with one.
