Do have time for a starter?

Share your experiences of using brewing yeast.

Fast as it will go on the convex base of my demijohn, about enough so the whirlpool 'cone' goes about 3 inches below the surface in the centre if that makes sense. Although when it gets active like in that picture, it slows down to rougly half speed.

Still not seeing anything except that it's turned a slightly milky colour no foam yet although i did add some antifoam sure doesn't look like yours yet

If it's changed colour then it's doing the business I reckon, are you planning to split it or pitch it into a batch of beer?

I am going back to work so i was planning taking a few small bottles as per Jim's method then put it in the fridge until i come home. I will decant then add another 2 litres of wort & back onto the stir plate to add to a 5 gallon king keg i have modified like Daabs with temperature control with an ATC - 800 .The slurry from the 5 gallon brews will pitch my main 135 Litre brews.I think i might manage 2 or 3 repitchings from the slurry basically i am using the king keg as a big starter but get to drink it as well

I am not going to use the yeast from the blow off instead of my normal 110 litre brew i will brew 135 litres 25 litres going into the king keg. Basically i will be doing 2 ferments at the same time the first brew i will need to add dry yeast to the 110 litre brew.As there will be about a month between each brew i will be using the slurry lying below the beer in the king keg to pitch the next 110 litre + 25 litre brew.I would transfer the beer from the king keg the night before & add some wort to reactivate the slurry.(If i was to collect the blow off yeast instead i dont think it would keep as well as the slurry at the bottom of the king keg ?)

It might all be pie in the sky anyway with this Burton yeast it's now the third day all it's done is turn a slight milky colour.When i turn the stir plate of should i see co 2 bubbles rising not seeing anything cant find my camera to take a picture

Thing is Daab i am leaving tonight as i am back offshore in the morning it's already been on the stir plate 3 days held at 20oc by my ATC - 800. Should i leave it another 3 days then get the wife to stick it in my beer fridge under airlock. I should have an idear of how it's went when i get home by looking at how much sediment there is if any. Reading American posts about WL yeast on stir plates there starters are normally done in 19 - 24 hours not the case it seems with WL yeast by the time we get it

My Burton took 2 days to start working on the plate. then about another 3 days to finish (3.5L starter) . . . . Thats when it needs to go in the fridge, adn drop out.

Hello all the Burton Ale stir-plate starter that i added to my king keg yeast propagator turned out ok as i am drinking it at the moment it's very nice .The slurry from the king keg has now made it's way back into the king keg & into 110 litres Black Sheep Ale 135 litres in all .I have it set at 20 oc is this about right for this yeast.Also how many repitchings should i go with this yeast was planning on three this one looks like a good top working yeast lovely.

Burton Ale sure has a thick yeast head opened it up to test with my Hydrometer thinking the head will have collapsed by now as it's been going since Saturday.
