I like Muntons okay too, in fact it's kinda one of my secret weapons. It makes a decent estery English ale in its own rite, but even better, it plays nice in a blend of English ale strains. As such, I always keep a couple cheapo packets around for insurance, in case my bottle cultures aren't big enough in time for my brewday, or if the lag-time seems to be dragging too long, etc. I'll stick to my planned special yeast plus Muntons if need be.

I've had great results with Danstar Nottingham. Just overpitch (2x sachets for a 20-odd litre batch), rehydrate well beforehand and control fermentation temps to 16C or so.
