Wyeast 1028 - London Ale Yeast

Post by tim » Mon Jan 22, 2007 6:44 pm

I wanted to try a Wyeast and got this mid december - but it was in the fridge about a month before I took it out and smacked it on saturday. Made up a starter with spraymalt and sat back to watch it go - but it didn't :(
Now (two days later) it's bubbling away happily, but there's not a sign of any sort of head forming :? .... is this usual? or something wriong with it? And how will I tell ... ?

Yep, you don't tend to get a head forming on a starter. You should a fair amount of yeast at the bottom of the starter.

Your yeast is fine tim, I have used that yeast myself several times over the years and yours sounds fine to me, as long as it is fizzing away you have no worries.

Wyeast 1028 is one of my personal favourites, you can't go wrong with it.
