Help with Isinglass

Post by Bazil » Mon Feb 12, 2007 2:34 pm

Hi,

Could I ask for some advice with this problem please?

The batch of Isinglass was mixed up 3 weeks ago and stored in the fridge. I used it in a stout 4 days ago without any problem, just a few floating islands but on the pale ale I've ended up with this:-

As usual I mixed the solution with about 2 pints of beer and poured into the carboy. Should I leave it, as it is clearing or rack and repeat with a new batch of isinglass?

Cheers
Barry

Thanks DaaB your right, just had a good look with a strong light source and it has started to ferment again. Strange at it was 1.007 when racked off, would you suggest just leaving it be.

Cheers

I'm afraid the beer has died *sniff it was so young and innocent!

Just taken another reading down to 0.998 and a smell of rotten eggs, will have to pay more attention to sanitation in future.

Cheers

as a matter of interest what made you chose to use insinglass as opposed to gelatin?
