harvesting yeast from commercially bottled beer

Post by layangman » Mon Oct 03, 2005 5:54 am

Hi Jim,

I have succeeded in harvesting yeast from a bottle of Cooper's Sparkling Ale.
Used rice maltose (very thick syrup) into 250ml of boiling water, cooled to low 20s and add into the last inch or so of beer in the Cooper's bottle. Pop an airlock/bung and let nature do the rest. It started to bubble after about 4 days.

I just added another solution of rice maltose, this time about 300ml and the increase in activity is obvious. I intend to make a 1 litre batch and use it for my next IPA brew.

Cheers.
