...what is the avialability in the UK? Any recommendations?

Wyeast have a full range of yeasts including lager ones, Reg. Leyland home brew probably have one in stock.

Does Saflager S-23 count? I can buy it in sachets at my local HB shop, http://www.cheerswinemakingandbrewing.co.uk/index.html.
