Safale problem

Post by johnmac » Sun Apr 23, 2006 1:47 pm

I've just used Safale for the first time - seems quite good. However, I just sprinkled the yeast onto the wort and left it. I noticed the yeast formed into bread-like clumps, about 1/2" diameter. Now, I still have clumps of floating yeast after four days in secondary at 14 deg C, having fined with Beerclear.

Will the floaters eventually sink?

Should I try to scoop them out or what?

Would this have been avoided by whisking the yeast into the wort and/or rehydrating?

Is this a common problem with Safale?

as daab i've used safale a lot and for me the easiest way to use it is to rehydrate it with 25cl of water (25-30°) a little spoon of sugar, shake well , add the bag of yeast shake well again and wait 20mn , this method is very easy and quick to do and work at every time without any problem B)

Thanks jean-yves. The Safale has done a fine job, in the end. By the way, I just noticed your signature...

"Malt is the soul of beer....and yeast gives it life..
But the kiss of the hop is the vitality of that life !"

Are all French men poets by nature?

English version: I like homebrew because it tastes good, it gets you pissed and it's cheap. Perhaps missing some je ne sais quoi - I'll work on it!
