Sounds good. Will give it a whirl if/when it appears.

Come to Daddy! Like Dennis K, WLP002 is my preferred strain and I look forward to using this dried yeast. Not before time this I can tell you. WLP002 is great stuff.

Now we've just gotta find where it is for sale in the UK

Not for certain but the initial email from them had this from John Keeling

"For that classic ESB flavor you need look no further than London ESB yeast from Lallemand - all the characteristics of a classic ESB strain in a convenient dry form"

John Keeling
Head Brewer
Fullers Brewery, London

although I suppose he says "a" classic strain rather than "the" classic strain

Hopefully they haven't just taken S04 and used that

I think we just to assumptions too easily. A pro brewer once told me that neither 002 nor 1968 was the actual Fullers strain. I don't know if he was right but I can imagine that the companies who sell these yeasts are happy for them to be linked with Fullers without ever confirming either way. And John Keeling endorsing a yeast as a classic ESB yeast doesn't mean it's Fullers necessarily, as you say. It may or may not be, but hopefully is similar, at least.

I think that is a good point. I have always thought whitelabs and wyeast were derived from original strains not necessarily exact strains.

It almost certainly isn't, but then 'in house' strains will adapt themselves to the conditions of the brewery/fermenter over time, and when you take a yeast and use it in a different fermentation chamber they'll portray different characteristics.

So even if you and I had samples straight from Fullers and applied them to wort taken from Fullers we'd all end up producing a different version final beer using our own fermentation equipment.

In another example the Experimental Brewing podcast did a comparison between a blonde ale made with White Labs WLP001 and Wyeast 1056 - supposedly the same 'Chico' strain that is also US-05. There was a difference between the final beers.

At the end of the day though it's nice to have a dry option for an 'ESB Style' yeast with the high floculation/moderate attenuation characteristics.

Anyway, what is an ESB yeast? Fullers use their one strain for all their beers don't they?!

They do. It's just shorthand for the yeast strain characteristics that's gone into common usage. A bit like 'West Coast' for the Chico/US-05/WLP001/WY1056/BRY-97.
