Test tubes

Post by alix101 » Mon Oct 24, 2016 10:48 pm

I'm looking to build a yeast bank I'd previously embarked on this a few years back but unfortunately I'm back to scratch.
Could someone point me in a tried and tested test tube to use for slants there so many and a variation in price.
Thanks

The only thing I would add, make sure they are autoclave-able if using an autoclave / pressure cooker, quite a few examples on eBay the actual container is OK but they supply them with plastic tops which simply melt.

These may look the same......

Stick them in an autoclave to 121c for 15mins

Although I use more agar & they are more opaque than transparent I use Azlon 60ml bottles, if you are interested either search eBay for them at a ridiculous price, or as I do have a quite a few of them 40 bottles for £15.00inc postage, dual purpose, slant / freezing experiments / slant starters.....

One last thing, I do test my autoclave with test equipment to make sure both temp and pressure are achieved.

The ones I get from King Scientific are autoclavable. But if you're in doubt message the seller. KS respond quickly :thumb:

Thanks for the information I'll check all of them out.
Always thought the whitelabs tubes would be good quality ...
