Starter for 5l brew

Post by Paddington » Sat Feb 10, 2018 9:55 am

I am splitting a brew into 5 litre batches to test a few yeasts. I have a pretty old (month or so) harvested WLP007, probably about 25 mls. Given the small brew, I’m thinking a 500ml starter. Would this be ok?

Rule of thumb is 10 times. So go for 25gs of light DME in 250 mls. 500 mls wouldn't do any real harm though.
I am "The Little Red Brooster"

Fermenting:
Conditioning:
Drinking: Southwold Again,

Up Next: John Barleycorn (Barley Wine)
Planning: Winter drinking Beer

If the WLP007 is only going into 5 litres you might be okay without a starter, but it would be good insurance to do a small one.
I'm just here for the beer.
