Bad news for those that use Swansons L Plantarum capsules as a cheap source of lactobacillus for kettle sours or mixed fermentation beers, the manufacturer has told me that they have stopped making them.
There are still some available with resellers (e.g. here and here) but be aware that they have a shelf life and you should refrigerate them ASAP.
Alternative suppliers seem to be fairly rare as most seem to supply capsules with multiple bacteria in, some of which are undesirable, or with much lower rates of bacteria at a greater cost.
At least the dry yeast manufacturers seem to now be providing alternatives, although it it worth shopping around as I have seen prices vary by close to 100% between different home brew suppliers for these new products.
