a starter question
Having made up over a period of days a 4litre starter with my WLP yeast i am wondering do i simply use a hydrometer to check the worts been consumed by the yeast secondly if it has surely i only need to pitch the yeast visible at the bottom of the starter vessel and the rest could be slung?if this is not the case whats the advantage of pitching the yeast with the spent wort?

I neither taste it or check the gravity, if it has stopped bubbling then its stopped AFAIAC. I then allow it to settle, pour off most of the liquid, and add some wort taken from the boiler half way through the boil (And Cooled!!!), but the time the wort is cooled and in the fermenter, its usually fermenting strongly, and then gets pitched.
