Bloomin mold!!

Post by Aleman » Tue Jan 08, 2008 5:49 pm

Just looked at my WLP833 starter for my CAP and the damned thing has a thin white layer of mold over the surface of the liquid, so thats down the drain :(

Just put 20ml of a sterile starter into the Whitelabs phial to free up what was left (I always keep them in the fridge afterwards so that I can culture up a couple of slants etc). Hopefully this should be fermenting well tomorrow morning so that it can go into 200ml of wort, and then I can step that up again tomorrow evening to a bigger starter. Won't have quite so much yeast as I planned, but a good active starter should achieve my aims.

That'll teach me to try and do yeast starters in the house

Woah, bad luck. Was it definately mold? Some of my starters form a thin white layer but i'm assuming these are fine bubbles accumulating on the surface :?

Its mold, its a white film, and there is a definite 'layer' in the starter with some bubbles trapped 'between the layers.
