Not so Turbo Cider!

For any alcoholic brew that doesn't fit into any of the above categories!

Hi Curious-brew

Get yourself some Whitelabs WLP775 it's great (liquid English cider yeast) I and many others rate it highly.

Ok its a bit expensive initially but if you do a brew then split the slurry into six or so and keep it in the fridge for other batches it's pretty economical.

When I say it crystal clear I mean it clears faster than any other yeast I've used for TC, which suits me. I keg crystal clear cider and force carbonate which makes for sh*t of a stick bi-turbo cider!

I've use to prime with 30ml of AJ, works just great but I hate bottling (don't you find opening all those bottles is a PITA and eats into drinking time! ) so now just keg.

If I want to take some to friends I fill a PET bottle from the keg and use a carbonater kap to maintain the sparkle. Stays crystal clear no matter how much it gets shaken on the way 8)

Cheers for the advice Russ.

Just got back from my local brew shop (well, about four hours ago!) and all they had in the way of yeast was a Young's Champagne and a Munton's Ale, so I grabbed one of each.

I'm going to have to do an online order for some Whitelabs WLP775 and Safale 04.

lets us know how the Young's cider yeast goes, i have a couple sachets of it
Hello Oblivious, The Young's yeast did the trick for me.

I've used safale 04 yeast & leftover yeasts from lager kits before but for my dodgy palette the Young's yeast seemed to give a more original cider taste to the brew. Still dry but I like it that way. I reckon it's best left left to condition for a month or more though.

If only I could make a Weston's organic scrumpy cider :)

I never take gravity readings except to see if the brew has fermented. I've had headaches that prove that it works though!
