ideas for Atomic Lemon recipes

Post by booldawg » Fri Oct 05, 2007 8:12 am

Reading through this forum has got me hooked on the idea of trying an Atomic Lemon this side of Christmas. Please could you point me in the right direction with some recipes and recommendations on what yeasts to use, amount of water/sugar etc? Any pointers would be much appreciated!

I'd be tempted to leave out the whole lemons and up the juice quantity.

Maybe kill the yeast when finished and add liberal quantities of late sweetness or lots of lactose.

My last recipe was:

4 lemons (chopped)
500ml lemon juice
750g sugar
3.5L water
1 sachet bread yeast

Glad my name of Atomic Lemon has stuck, 8)

Thanks for that. I think Atomic Lemon is a very suitable name!

im thinking of doing one of these but with a bit of a twist
1 bottle of jif lemon stuff.
1 bottle of jif lime stuff.
a 1lb pot of honey
brewing sugar if needed.
dont know what % to aim it for mabe 10? 15% sounds too dry.
and to finnish get some real lemonade (bottles from supermarket)
and mix half half should be about 5 - 7.5% and great for getting people wrecked.
also if anyone finds a blueberry syrup of any kind please let me know i dont want to have to resort to buying 20 blueberry bushes next year for wkd making

I think mixing any of these with lemonade is the way to go. I took the lid off the FV to my ginger beer yesterday and the fumes nearly took my eyebrows off !(as nature has already claimed my hair) Its not fermenting so much as seething since I added 2 tsp of yeast vit yesterday.

im gona try one of these soon, oh damn the own brand stuff!
actually i work in asda doin nights at the moment and they sell honey 1lb (or very just under) pots of honey for like 70p each, cheapest i seen so far, mite make a mead....

and yes lemonade is the best way 2 mix a drink, make the drink for 10 - 14% and then mix half half with lemonade or some mixer, even the girlfriend who only drinks crappy sparkling wines or alcopops should like it.

and on another note, i was thinking about the whole wkd thing... blueberry jam anyone?!!! would have to shove it in a saucepan and simmer to burn any preservative off i guess but could work?
other than that mabe just use the blueberry "alcoshot" kits around?
unless anyone knows where i can buy a few lb's of blueberrys cheap (seem to be priced around £10 for bugger all these days)

Ypu may get pectin haze from using jam, you can counter the effect but I can't remember what it is that you use, sorry!

I have bought some blueberry juice to make something similar though, the Tesco stuff I got was around a quid a carton.

It's going down okay.

Mine was fermented in the kitchen on the worktop next to the boiler, average ambient was probably about 20 degrees... ish.

Didn't bother with secondary, just racked it straight to bottle without priming, mo point when it's being mixed with lemonade.

Smirnoff Ice? No, more like Cif.
