For any alcoholic brew that doesn't fit into any of the above categories!

What's the best way to drink mead?

Post by spearmint-wino » Sun Oct 21, 2007 8:05 pm

I picked up a bottle of mead yesterday and was wondering what's the best way to go... Room temp? Chilled? With food?

Also, how long will it keep once I uncork the bottle? (providing I don't cane it in under an hour :D)

What kind of mead is it, SW?

The reason I ask is that some commercially available meads are fortified with spirits and will keep quite a while (like port and sherry).

I think room temperature is best for the fortified type, not sure about 'normal' unfortified mead - that might be better chilled.

I think it is 'normal' mead - 12% ABV, un-spiced and not aged in a whisky barrel or the like.

Like the look of that 'mead horn'. Forget a mere yard of ale...
