What have I done?

Post by mrdave3000 » Fri Dec 07, 2007 6:53 pm

Thought I would start another turbo cider yestreday as I loved the last one I made. This time I thought I would make one that wasnt too strong, as the last one was like rocket fuel. So Ive not added any sugar to the juice.

So this time I have used-

4.5 litres of Princes Apples Juice
Muntons Premium Gold Dried Ale Yeast

The SG was 1042

It has now been 24hours and Ive not had as much as a single bubble.

What have I done wrong? Any ideas? :?

24 hours is too soon to worry too much, give it a little longer, but does that apple juice contain preservatives?

I always find it better to prepare yeast starters for my brews, it lets you know that the yeast is OK before you pitch it, and it also produces a better (in my opinion) fermentation.

see here for info on yeast starters

hope this helps

I find Muntons gold a great TC yeast, and it usually gets going in a few hours - is there preservative in the juice? and what temp is it at?

I wouldn't worry, TC isn't to be rushed if it doesn't want to be.

There are no preservatives in the juice, its the same juice that Ive used to prime my bottles in the past.

Im just not used to using ale yeasts, the last time I used a wine yeast and it was bubbling like mad within about 2-6 hour.

I will wait it out and hope it starts.

Thanks for the like
