Artificial Sweetner

Add it at the beginning or after fermentation?

How much to a gallon, anyone got any previous experience?

Hello,

Have just bottled 4L of TC from Tesco's AJ and Youngs Champagne Yeast. Thought it was a little lacking in residual sweetness and less politely ...where's the body??? What do you do (if anything) CB, this is my 1st attempt and wondered if you had any wisdom on increasing body? Think I'll serve this with a lemonade top.

I found additional sugar created a very "thin" brew. Not sure what I'd suggest to thicken it up, although I have heard that starting with a single litre of apple juice and then adding another once the first has fermented out and so on until you get to four helps... I've never had the patience.

My TC is very flat and tastes very dry/rank, I tried adding sugar but that didn't help. Is adding apple juice the only way, what about putting some sweetex in the brew and disloving them? If so haw many?
Maybe I left it too long in the primary ferment stage?

Try drinking three pints in a row, improves the flavour no end.

No sure what to advise really. I've not found an acceptable remedy for the dryness or thinness... yet.

Sweetex, one tablet per pint, after fermentation.

1 Litre of apple juice and a tablet of sweetex per two pints. Oh...and three drops of red food colouring in 23 litres to make it look like Magners. It takes about three weeks for the dye to stop appearing in the head but there you go

So Sweetex to taste, but considering that many people have two tabs in a cup of tea, it's hard to over do it if you're after even slightly sweet cider.

I added one sweetex per 500ml but it still tasted a bit rough so I added another, then I carbonated it and I've stuck it in the fridge. I'll give a taste report tonight!

But I am slightly losing faith as you can buy strongbow, mendip, merry down quite cheaply anyway, worth the experiment I guess. Think I'll have a go at making real cider next time.

Hmmm, I worked a miracle once by adding sweetener (might be splendor) before the brew, and then a half cup of original mix onto the final product.

It's the first thing I've made that my mother in law likes. It tastes just like tropical juice, but packs about 7%. And it cost only about £2.50 to make 4.5l.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go look up that recipe again, would be great for Crimbo.

OK, sorted it. I reckon 4 x sweetex per litre does the trick, I carbonated it too with a widget world so-dash kit. Amazing what the sweetex does, I take back what I said earlier it was really good, tastes like a decent dry cider.

Going to get a 25L batch on the go!

I personally find the taste of sweetener revolting but that's just me.

You could try stunning the yeast with some sodium met after fermentation then adding back some fresh juice. You could also add maltodextrin for body (but it won't add sweetness).
