to take an og reading on my tc can i just take a sample from a carton of apple juice or did i need to put all 4 litres in the dj and then do it? sorry imbeing a bit dumb!! i already did it by taking a sample from the carton and got 1053, so it is too late already but would like to know for the future. by the way no extra sugar was added.thanks

Yeah, It'll be the same wherever you take the sample from. Its measuring the relative density of the juice compared with distilled water - this will be the same for any volume. :D

edit: the only issue here is that different cartons may have different gravities so maybe a sample from the mixed volume would be better, although I doubt it would vary that much from carton to carton...

remember that there are temperature corrections for og readings - not usually worth bothering to "correct" at normal temperatures but if you juice is straight out of the fridge then its worth it. The conversions are somewhere on this site.......
