red grape juice and strawberry jam

Post by emyrjones88 » Sat May 09, 2009 2:05 pm

Haven’t made a tc in a while so boredom today has got me thinking about making a rose. Just wondered if anybody could help?

Was thinking about using 4l of Sainsbury’s Pure Red Grape Juice.

And one or two Sainsbury's Basics Strawberry Jam with No Bits

Was just wondering if there is a way to figure out the OG? And if I need to add sugar to get a 10% ish drink

Just found this on the internet

“100 grams of sugar ferments into almost exactly 1% Alcohol in a 5L demijohn”

So going by that

166g of sugar in each carton of grape juice

So a total of 664g of sugar from the grape juice

And 217.92g of sugar from one jar of jam

Total sugar content of 881.92g

So if toped up to 5L I will end up with a 9% ish drink? Could anybody advise me if I’m correct?

Use your hydrometer on the juice and see what it comes out at, guessing at an FG of 1.000 will give you a rough guide on how strong it'll turn out.
