8-way TurboCider taste test: yeast comparison
Re: 8-way TurboCider taste test: yeast comparison
Nice one OB. I read the report and its got me in the mood for some TC again. Where do you get the Suma from? Can't say its something I've seen. If I have understood it is a concentrate that dilutes with water.
Which morrisons sweetner did you use?
Cheers
Tony

You get Suma concentrate from hippyfood places. I've come to the conclusion that most supermarket AJ is too acid for really good cider, but the Suma stuff at 1:6 dilution is spot on, and it just tastes great anyway. So it may cost just a little bit more but it's worth it.
It comes in organic or standard: organic is wasted here so no point paying the extra. They do it in 400ml or 500ml bottles - depends how much you're making which it makes sense to buy.
For this run I got the 5l polycontainer... Normally that's too much for me as I usually do 2 gallon runs and once opened it only keeps a couple of months even in the fridge, but if you're making a big batch it's cheaper to buy in bulk.
If you order the 5l or a slab of 6 bottles you can usually get at least 5%, maybe 10%, off the list price if you smile nicely - they know it's in and out in one day so can let the margin slip a bit.
Suma recommend diluting between 1:6 and 1:8 for normal drinking, but I just run the sugar content through an Excel spreadsheet I have and make it up from there.
It says "Morrison's Granulated Sweetener". It's sucralose and a bit of maltodextrin, I figured that could only help.

Good post. I need to check if I can get some Suma AJ concentrate locally.
