First TC questions again!

Hello,

I have read numerous threads and thought that I would give TC a bash.
I stumbled upon this forum whilst looking for a cider kit, and found the TC thread.

I have tried a couple of cider kits but also making cider by smashing apples myself, however to no luck.

So I grabbed 4lt of Tesco AJ, some wine yeast that I had spare and 100g of caster sugar (no other avaliable)

Heated the sugar in 0.5l of AJ then added to AJ when cooled. Agitated the mix and fitted an air lock.

All this happened at about 16.00 this afternoon. At around 17.00 ish it was bubbling at the rate of about 12 bubbles a minute.

No I have a nice head, bit of a lava lamp going and a little yeast cake in the bottom. HOWEVER no more bubbles!

Should I chuck it in the airing cupboard or just leave it?

Mine has (on first glance) stopped doing anything.

Made it Friday, and it was bubbling after a couple of hours. By Saturday it was seriously bubbling (a 'plip' a second). On Sunday it had reduced to around a plip every 10 seconds, and today Monday it is only going plip every 20 - 30 seconds..........but if you look really closely at the brew it is still fizzing away, and starting to clear :D.

Ok,

It still seems to be going ok, only problem is that the sandy residue that came to the top has stuck to the inside of the bottle and the head is just below. I have scraped it down onto the top of the liquid.

What am I looking for to see that it is ready other than bubbles at a slow rate approx 1 per minute?

Well I've only done this twice, but basically leave it a week or so until there are no signs of bubbles rising at all and it looks (if the juice was clear in the first place) relatively clear. Next, check the gravity with a hydro and you'll find it's close to 1.000 and pretty much fermented out. Siphon into pint bottles with 30ml of apple juice or a half tsp of sugars per bottle. I get 9 pint bottles out of a gallon fermenter.

I just checked mine.

Started: Thursday 26th July (OG 1.054)
Fermented: Thursday 26th through to Monday 30th

Checked Gravity: Tuesday 31st (0.996 !!!)

Tastes lovely, not as sharp as I expected, but actually quite sweet. Still a little cloudy, but I think I will bottle it anyway.

So if I am right: OG 1.054, FG 0.996 = 7.7%

So this is officially my first EVER brew thats completed to a drinkable level. :=P

The Wherry is still very cloudy, and yeasty, in fact it initially tastes more like Hoegardden (excuse the spelling), then the ale flavours come as an after taste...weird :?

latest update,

it's really bubbling now. Forgot to say that it was left in a warm area, similar to an airing cupboard.

Should I move it from there and just wait until the bubbling slows down and drink.

By bubbling slowing down would everyone consider slow as 1 bubble a minute?

i started one at 5:30pm today and its just starting to get some foam on top, 1 bubble a min is ok, bit slow i think compared to my beer see what happens.... or drink it... you know you want to :twisted: :lol:

Just taken a reading and have a gravity of 1.021 still bubbling like crazy! Have tasted it and does is very tasty, only prob is that I can't taste any alcohol :lol:

Still not very clear, but will leave until Sunday and rack off into a new container to clear. Hopefully it will get a bit more dry.

Use gervain? champagne yeast btw.

(Unless I drink it on Sat with some chums!)
