Thinking of making some small 1 gallon batches of turbo cider as a bit of a change from brewing beer.
What do i need to look out for when buying the juice, for example asda do a 100% apple juice from concentrates. Is this ok to use?
Edit: just seen they are doing 4l of this apple juice for £2.60.
Is it things like sorbate and preservatives i need to look out for?

Re: Turbo cider ingredients
Just juices as you have described. Use tea as well to help add some tanin. Check out some of WA threads as he has made a lot of the stuff. Just using juice will make a dry cider between 5 - 6%.
Re: Turbo cider ingredients
Check out Aldi and Lidl, they occasionally do a cheap apple juice. Well worth the effort, especially if you can recover yeast from a bottle of Weston's Old Rosie cider. As has been said make up a strong brew (5/6 tea bags in a 1L of water) to add, it helps with the mouth feel.
Re: Turbo cider ingredients

Old Rosie doesn't have live yeast anymore, I've been told.

chef,
Take a look at this thread......viewtopic.php?f=13&t=37444&start=285
I know it looks a long read but there are lots of recipes on there ( especially when I joined in 2013)
You will like the TC so much, you will soon be making 20Lt batches.

Re: Turbo cider ingredients
Thanks. I have started to have a read. I always brew beer but the missus does not drink beer but likes the occasional cider. So a bit of experimenting is in order to see if i can brew something she likes. I also have a load of apples and pears in my freezer. The apples of which have come off my homegrown dwarf apple trees. So these will be used to make a batch of cider as well.WalesAles wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2017 5:00 amchef,

Re: Turbo cider ingredients
That was pretty much what i did on first attempt. It turned out quite nice. I had to leave it for a couple of months to improve the flavour though.
