Right, now have everything i need to begin, feels like sunday morning experiment :-)

Im making one substitution tho - despite searching i've been unable to source aniseed so i'll be substituting that and the star anise for allspice (which according to the jar contains both amongst other things)

Pics to follow :-)

Lucky Charms is sugary child's crap. I wouldn't give 10¢ for it.

We have some stores around, opened by UK expats, that sell British products. Prices are way too high. I don't know who shops there, particularly as you can get most of that stuff at better prices in regular groceries.

One thing they have that I do occasionally get is dark chocolate Aero bars. :D

Now that SWMBO has had some, the consensus is that mine needs to be sweeter to balance the bitterness. I'd give it 50% more sugar at bottling time.

You do have room in your fridge for all these bottles, don't you? :D

One other thing: I read some things about bitter orange and potential problems with medications for heart and blood pressure (similar to grapefruit). It might do to have a read before serving this drink to the grandparents. Better safe than sorry...literally.

SWMBO has exactly those meds and problems, and she won't be having any more of this drink. More four me.

I do have the fridge space.... but i also have a rooted dislike of the "chill to still" method of stopping fermentation  I must admit i was thinking about slashing back on the priming sugar and substituting the remainder with splenda - i just cant be assed with the whole " chill it or it'll explode" thing

I'll be bottling to recycled 2l PET bottles so it wouldn't take up too much space i guess.

Splenda is dextrose...it ferments.

I used 2L PET bottles too.

Splenda is Sucralose, lari - its a halogenated form of sucrose and isnt fermentable. I think there's a small amount of fructose in there so i think overall, its about 2-5% fermentable. Thats why its a popular back sweetening agent.

Hmmm, you're absolutely right. I wonder why I forgot that. Advancing Alzheimer's?

This web-site says:
The other two ingredients in Splenda are dextrose and maltodextrin, which are used to increase bulk and are carbohydrates that do have calories. One cup of Splenda contains 96 calories and 32 grams of carbohydrates, which is often unnoticed due to the label claiming that it's a no calorie sweetener.
I probably saw the tiny amount of dextrose on the label and incorrectly mentally blew it up into the main ingredient. Oh well, thanks for the correction. :)

Splenda: I might do that myself next time for the kvass that's waiting to be bottled.

I have some maltodextrin coming in next week to experiment with improving body and mouth feel of turbo ciders next week but its not very sweet as sugars go - sucralose is ~600 times sweeter than maltodextrin ! so wont be a lot of good for backsweetening.
