They fill them with fizzy cr*p like Coke and Fanta so a bit of TURBO won't do 'em any harm!
Agreed, the first kit beers I made where put in PET bottles, durable, cheap and even if you over carbonate no chance of them becoming dangerous

priming in pet bottles

Post by seankeggers » Sun Oct 28, 2007 11:14 pm

I know ive gone away from the original topic but how long does it normally take for a brew to gain a reasonable fiss after priming. I recently bottled my first ever brew of bavarial pilsner and after 10 days am finding i cannot resist but to sup some, it has not got much of a fizz at this stage though..

I know it's difficult but patience really does pay off with homebrewing. The carbonation might be okay after a couple of weeks but the flavour of the beer will really improve with a few weeks conditioning in a cold place!

I started my TC on saturday lunch with a gravity of 1056 and its stopped all activity all ready. Can it be finished so soon? Just took a reading of 1000. Is this the reading i want ?

I made some and was really surprised with how speedy it was. It was only in primary for less than a week but i found it very dry so i chucked a load of sugar in it to sweeten it up. Tasted nice, got me drunk and my friends were very impressed so are having a dabble themselves. I have another batch on the go but this weekend i might try fermenting another kind of juice. Aldi have cartons of Pomnegranate juice for 70p a pop so i might roll with them.

My turbo cider has nearly finished fermenting :D It is clearing nicely and the yeast has packed down on the bottom of the demi-john, just the odd bubble rising from the bottom. I'm going to bottle in some empty beer bottles I have laying around soon. :D

Is this normal

Post by seankeggers » Wed Nov 14, 2007 10:15 pm

I have bottled my tc and kept it at a nice warm temperature to condition the cider and my bottles went really hard which i thought was a good sign they would be getting fizzed up. they have now been in the callar a few days and the bottles now seem to have lost the pressure as i can squeeze them a lot further in... can this be right? :?

At lower temperature, more of the CO2 will dissolve, reducing the pressure...
But if you wait a while, the yeast will make more to correct that :)
