Re: credit crunch cider
Ok I confess!!
It was me that has taken a swig out of the bottle in the middle
I couldn't resist..
Looked too good, I'm really enjoying following this thread! You have done some great work and it's so good to hear feedback about how the brew turned out!!

Re: credit crunch cider
this one ended up absolutely amazing. i gave 4 bottles to people in my work, and all said that the strength of it was very deceptive. i agree, having drank three in a row along with 3 beers, i was a little bit squiffy, to say the least.
considering it costs £1 to make, i will be doing this again and again.
meanwhile, in my fv just now is an apple & pear, while i have orange & mango conditioning.

Re: credit crunch cider
I like the idea of trying this, but am unsure how long to leave the tea bag in the fermentor for.
I understand it is to add tannins to add a little 'bite' but not sure how to do it.
Any advice?

Don't put the tea bag in the femermtor
Put two tea bags in a cup and add boiling water
And brew till its really strong and dark and when cooled add to the brew

Re: credit crunch cider
I prefer to add 4 teabags to a mug and not leave too long - want strong rather than bitter.second2none wrote:Don't put the tea bag in the femermtor

But anyway have recently switched to powdered tannin.
And I do TurboCider rather than CreditCrunchCider
Re: credit crunch cider
Many thanks for the advice.
I will definitely giving this a go,
If it is not quite 'right' it doesn't cost a lot, can always be used for a cheap cider shandy for the summer BBQ's

Re: credit crunch cider
personally i dont think these need the tannin, its just over complicating things. juice, water, sugar and yeast (nutrient if you must, i do).
ive not used the tannin and i dont think it would really improve it, also it would increase the cost ever so slightly.
i plan on making a 23 litre batch of apple & blackcurrant in the next week or so. just got to decide on alcohol percentage, i am think 5 pr 6%
