Parsnip wine

Post by oxford brewer » Mon Nov 03, 2008 9:46 pm

After being badgered by my Mum to "do some wines" as she puts it,
I started with a Parsnip wine.It has been in a fermenting bucket for 2 weeks and I have just racked to a DJ.After 2 days in the DJ it has formed 3 clear layers as seen in the following picture.
I am just wondering what has caused it as I have never seen that effect with beer.

Presumably there are different-sized particles involved here, but I've never seen anything quite like that, even when I used to make wine.

I've got an apple and parsnip wine on the go, and it aint looking anything like that. Frankly I wouldn't be concerned about the layers, it's the strange unearthly glow that would bother me
Seriously though I think you'll find this is just caused by goblins. The devil may make work for idle hands but it takes a whistle in nine to stop an ambulance.

Nothing to worry about, it is merely finished fermenting and is clearing on it's own, wait a couple more weeks and you'll have a 1" <> layer of sediment with the wine above clear.

Wow, it looks fabulous.
Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin would be proud of that.
Let us know how it turns out, I love parsnips.
