Ok I have to say ive lucked out with this one. Ive done 3 Tc's so far with no intention of stopping, the first one was just 4 cartons of AJ an yeast, primed after 10 days with another carton of AJ an bottled. Lovely stuf, Rather sour to start with a bit mouth puckering but matured nicely. well if you can call me leaving it alone for a week then supping it all maturing. second one was apple an raspberry, same process only it was 2 AJ an a carton of apple an raspberry. No real hit of raspberry but still decent enough. Now the 3rd one I really am impressed with, 2 cartons of AJ an 2ltr of blackcurrant juice. its only been in the bottle 2 days and its nice an fizzy an tastes similar to jaques cider for only a fraction of the price. Lovely stuff.
Off to aldi tommorow to explore the juices for my 4th TC an probably 5th Tc

If your going to Aldi can you check the price of grape juice please if you get chance.
Someone said it's on special offer at 56p / litre.
Thanks in advance.

I'm sure I saw this yesterday, its on a "price cut" rather than special offer. 56p definitely rings a bell but then again most Aldi fruit juice is that price!!

Just got back (popped in on my way past) and grape juice is 56p/L, apple juice is 57p/L and their pressed juices (not from concentrate) is 57p/750ml.
Hope that helps.

yeah it was like 56p or something, i walked away empty handed tho cos i was quite disapointed at the selection in our aldi, and was getting rather P*Ssd off with the dawdling old people and the people trailing 5 kids. Really really annoying, i actually just left the trolly we had in the aisle an left.
I also noticed that its not really THAT much cheaper than tescos which is closer to me than aldi.

May i suggest that you try this?

My first TC was apple and raspberry brewed with fresh raspberries amd Nottingham ale yeast i think. My latest is apple and pear(again using the cored fruit for the pear). I used the above cider yeast and it tastes as good after 1 month as my apple/rasp did after 6 months. For me there's no doubt that the cider yeast throws that 'authentic' cider flavour/twang thing better than ale yeast. DOn't know about bread yeast, i've not brewed with that......... yet.

I think ill just stick with bread yeast. My TC is merely a filler for when i run out of beer an im waiting for my next beer to finish conditioning

Fair enough mate. It amazed me the sort of quality of drinkable cider that can be achieved for practically bugger all. TC is going to become one of my standby brews when i want a change. A load of my work, ates who are confirmed Magners men tried the Rasp and apple and it went down a treat and they were surprised. I'll have to pick SWMBO to find out the cheapest place for apple juice!

I have to admit ive been really impressed with my TC experiments. They have all passed the taste test an been something reasonable to drink. So much so im ACTUALLY tempted to make it on a bigger scale rather than just the gallon at a time. I have quite a few empty bottles laying around.

I normally make around 16 ltrs at a time. My last one ended up a bit strong at 6.1% i think so i could have diluted it. I'm a great believer in ' if your going to brew might as well brew a decent amount. On beer i like to do about 23 to 25 ltrs at a time. Gives me something to get my teeth into and theres half a chance a bottle or 6 might get to a decent age!

hehe i was brewing in small amounts to start with while in the experimentation stage, finding out what flavours work and so on. I have to say my blackcurrant one has been my favourite so far. Now i just need to go an buy loads of juice. No doubt the checkout girl will think ive gone mad with 10 cartons of pop.

Aye that's the way to do it. No point making 5 gallons of drain cleaner when a gallon or 2 will do. I think i'll try the blackcurrant version some time ,sounds good and i remember when cider and black was the staple drink of young ladies at the start of their going out drinking. Not that i'm saying i'm a young lady or anything like that but i supped a pint or 12 of it myself back then. I know what you mean about the checkout thing when you are standing there with a trolley full of juice!

I might slip a bottle of vodka in the trolly or something then when she looks at me funny i can just *shrug* an say Party.
Bit daft really thinking you have to make excuses to the checkout girl for buying loads of juice. It almost feels like your doing something you shouldnt be. I bet i look well shifty. I think ill go to the self scan aisle.
