I just started a TC with 4 litre apple juice and 340g of clear honey added to it.It is fermenting round at a friends house  ,he supplied a roast pork dinner(with Black Forest Gataux for dessert) in exchange. The only downside is,i have to go back in 2 weeks and sample it

I have 2 on the go, one with honey and one with suagr.

The one with honey is almost finished fermenting and is cloudy as hell and hasn't got much fizz.

The sugar one started yesterday but i can tell you the sugar got off to an insane start, fizzing like mad. Infact some of it came out the airlock <_<

Fizzing away still.

The one thats close to ready smells great :)

Is their any difference in the final product between using apple for concentrate than one on the on concentrates for the chill cabinet in the supermarket? All I know is there is a big price difference

I wouldn't buy the chilled stuff. I dubt you would notice much difference there. I think concentrate orange juice is as nice as fresh to be honest.

BUT i would recommend own brand or branded over the cheap "basics" stuff.

What do you think is wrong with the chilled stuff; I would though that it would be of better quality as it has only been pasteurised and not concentrated

i have some batches using freshly pressed apple juice (from the chiller) and it was great, so much better than the stuff from concentrate. but as you have noticed its more expensive. but what the heck you would pay more than that for decent cider anyhow.

i am quite gutted though. my sister used to work in a juice factory and used to get me all the apple juice i wanted for next to nowt. i was getting freshly pressed stuff rrp £1.50 l for 35p a liter. unfortunately she got made redundant last year. perhaps i had an impact on the company moving the factory somewhere cheaper

What sort of OG did that give?

The Asda juice I'm using is around 1.046 on it's own. Intend to use Lalvin EC-1118 so expect it to ferment down to 0.995ish, about 6.5% ABV. Could do with being perked up a little. Would the honey impart any taste?

I quite like almost still cider. Sod's law, expect mine will end up explosive

Did you prime with sugar or more juice. I (think) I'll use juice, have to engage brain and try to work out how much. :-k

edit:

The Asda juice was 1.046 so the sugar content (depending upon which table I consult!) is around the 120g/l, or 0.12g/ml mark.

So to prime at the rate of 3.5g/l I need to add 29ml/l of juice.

I didnt take a gravity reading as i forgot to take my hydro with me.
I am going to do this TC again at home so i will get a reading then.
Hopefully the honey will not lose all its flavour during the fermentation and will leave a sweet edge to the TC :?

Straight juice, no honey or sugar. Probably give the honey a go on the next one.

Fermentation not too frisky at a nice steady 17C

so I'll top up with more juice to around the 4.5 maybe 5l mark. :D

Ive always put honey in my TC, you just get a slight honey after taste, I think it bring out the apple taste too, all my gang like it anyway. I some times get a slight haze I think thats the honey but usually I get it fairly clear.

Topped up and fermenting nicely. (Terrible picture quality).

FG has been sitting at 0.994 for the last few days and it was starting to clear, so decided it was time to bottle, primed with more apple juice.

(Think I'll give it 1/10 for presentation, and that was generous).

A QC check was quite a suprise. Thought I was brewing some old Tramp Juice, but even at this stage it tastes much better than I was expecting :D

I'll certainly give this another go... and another...
