Can I just throw yeast at apple juice?

For any alcoholic brew that doesn't fit into any of the above categories!

Ah, balls to it dave don't worry about it - it was just a thought. Is the brew shop off the york road not there anymore (about where the university cricket pitch is...). That was my local supplier when I lived up there in my third year at uni... (A while ago now though!!!)

Do you mean Millfield Homebrew? It's still there and it's where I buy most of my stuff (although its getting a bit pricey now) but getting there can be difficult.

Yes that's it! God that takes me back a few years, I just had a look at it on streetview. Used to live just round the corner from there. I used to make (and drink) some right junk as a student... That shops done well to last this long then (twenty years at least) shame if it's losing its edge by getting pricey. Can't beat having a good chat with man/ woman in LHBS though, becuase other than on here not many get passionate about it...

Oh well, no worries about the nutrient. I'm sure it will be fine.

The old fella (and his thai bride) are quite good for a chat & tbh if you're only buying 1 or 2 kits, by the time you've added on the postage costs from one of the online retailers, Millfield works out cheaper.

It's flat as a mill pond this morning and reading 1.050 & Room temp is 21 degrees. I've given it a rousing & if that doesn't help I'll have to find time to make a special trip to the LHBS for some nutrient.

Youngs cider yeast & OG was 1.060. Rousing helped a bit so I'm hoping that adding yeast nutrient will fix it properly.

A good heaped 'n' a half teaspoonfull should do for 12l - mix it in gentle and if you have an airing cupboard, move the mix in there to see if the warm gets her moving again.

If you dont see a move in SG in the next 24-36 hours then I'd consider a repitch

Since adding the nutrient and tweaking the temp to 23º Ive seen a drop of about 8-9 points! the room temp is now dropping coz the suns gone down and the heating's off but my mum bought us some very nice, fluffy towels for christmas (the kind that SWMBO will have your balls off for, if you so much as wipe your man hands on) so guess who's got a fluffy blanket for the night!! lol.

SWMBO will soon forget the towel infringement when she's drinking the reward  Amazing what a little nutrient will do - just remember it on the future brews ;)

Bottled it this morning. Despite pouring coke down the sink for the bottles, I still had about 2 ltrs left over. To make it worse, we're going out for the day (and I'm driving) so couldnt even save it to drink later! :( I did get a little sip and it's actually really nice! Would certainly brew it again!

It's gone into the bottle at 1.020 (bang on 6%) so I'm estimating it will be about 6.7% when it goes into the fridge.

Sounds about right for a straight TC :)

You can drink it pretty much straight away, but you'll thank yourself for a fortnight in the bottle first - goes from being "Cornershop White thunder" to something quite reasonable.

Oh... get the next one on ASAP !!
