Magnum cider kits

Post by new-brewer » Wed Jul 10, 2013 1:12 pm

Hi all,
I have just started off a pear cider kit from this range and wanted to know other people's experiences of it. I read good things online before I bought it.
Worst of it all is I just want it now :(
It's my first brew so fingers crossed!

I thought it was awful. I wouldn't add the pear flavouring as it tastes like fake, chemical pears. Like pear drops but worse.
The elderflower is much better IMO.

I guess without the flavouring it would just be a sweet cider.
Would you liken it to something like Kopperburg? I find that quite chemically. If that's a word!

Well this is on the second stage of fermentation now, added the pear favouring in. Will see how it goes. Happy with the simplicity of it :)
Looking out for a raspberry cider for a get together with friends next month, suggestions on a decent kit more than welcome.

Hello NB,
Why not try making your own Cider? Look on Oldblokes post `How to make Turbo Cider with pics`. Very satisfying when you and your mates are drinking this and they are all in awe of your supreme brewing skills! It really is that easy and very tasty too!

tesco and asda both sell raspberry syrups in the european food isles. they are called syrop owocowy. no preservatives and 274g sugar in a 440ml bottle. easy to brew. i have got one on just now that is raspberry and limeflower. done quite a few of them in the past, come in lots of varieties.

add to apple juice and you could have a decent raspberry cider.

Go turbo. No question about it.

Watch out with the polish syrups - they're very high in fermentable sugars so tend to make for high abv's and a very dry cider - i'd advise that you backsweeten with a bit of sucralose to take the sharp edge away.
