Couldn't resist any longer... my first Turbo Cider

I just had to do it

This is what I did:

Simmered 0.5l of apple juice (from Netto) with 150gm sugar. for about 5 mins.
Poured (via funnel) 3L of apple juice into demijohn and added the 'simmered' juice.
Checked temp and then added packet of Youngs cider yeast.
Shook well and added airlock.

I've still got another litre of apple juice to add later after yeast head as subsided (so long as everything goes ok of course!)

Quick question though... I took a reading of 1.056 for the contents of the demi but obviously I still have to add the other litre of apple juice. I'll take a reading of the remaining apple juice before I add it but how do I add this reading to the existing 1.056 so that I work out the sg?

I'm interested in the result as I'm not much of a cider drinker and thought making my own would be a nice introduction. When you bottle/keg it will you prime it? Some cider I've had has been flat and I wondered why.

Re: SG - Seems like you should just be able to take a weighted average. The weight you give to the sg of the extra litre should be 3.5 times less than that you gave to the 3.5 litres.

Assuming the SG for the 3.5 litre is larger I would do this:

SG(1 litre) + (3.5/4.5)*(SG(3.5 litre) - SG(1litre))

No doubt I'll be corrected if wrong and reserve the right to edit this post if I am :=P
