Yeast choice for cider

Post by retourrbx » Fri Oct 26, 2007 9:41 pm

Has anyone used Youngs cider yeast for a Turbo cider?

I pressed some apple juice with my press and wonder if it would be best to use s-33 or this budget yeast... cheers for any advice

I used Youngs Wine Yeast when I made my first TC, settled out very quickly and made a very dry but crisp tasting cider.

I just happen to have a Youngs Champagne yeast (another of those 'where the hell did that come from?' events) which I am going to try in a TC, so I will let you know how that goes.

Just need some more bottles, as I have used nearly all my bottles for beer .

I've used both Ritchie's and Young's Champagne yeast with good results.

Looking at my sig I see my first three batches used a sachet of W0094 yeast but I can't remember who made that one.

I found Youngs cider yeast settled well and the flavour was good.

I used the youngs cider yeast in my 1st TC and it worked ok although it didnt start aggressively just a steady plod :D
The cider has turned out nice but im gonna have to drink it soon as the oldpressure barrel has developed a leak at the tap and its only got a 2'' lid so not sure if the tap can be replaced.
