Actually I am asking myself the same question (almost). I asked someone recently about using soduim met for a no rinse sanitiser and was told that he wouldn't recommend it.

However I have (only recently) started using camden tablets for removal of chlorine from the water supply. I use half a tablet per 20 litres for this purpose. I think anythin gstronger 'could' inhibit the yeast doing it's stuff though!

Hi,
When do they get added, & do you crush them?
Thanks
Colin

Well I am no expert but I do crush the half tablet and add to bottom of container as it is filling up.

Campden tablets are meta bisulphate, a preserving aid. I t is generally used for stunning wild yeast spores before pitching yeast and added to wine before maturing to enable long term storage. It is also usefull for keeping fermenting vessals sweet ready for use (easy to rinse).

Very useful to remove chlorine, your dosage is pretty typical, it shouldn't affect yeast growth in beer as it will get boiled off before pitching.
