Nuclear Lemon

Post by Dave d » Fri Nov 23, 2007 5:52 pm

Finally got round to a lemon concoction hope it works, keep SWMBO happy :=P .

Based mainly on Curious Brew's Atomic lemon.

From left to right : Yeast nutrients - just a pinch, Coopers Ale yeast 7.5g, brewing sugar 1kg, lactose 250g? if it needs to be sweetened further after fermentation, lemon flavouring again depending on how it tastes after fermentation, 2 x 250ml lemon juice and 1 x 250ml lime juice.

Fermentation started within 12hrs, it tasted nice before going in the Demi.

could you taste the lime? i think that lemon and lime are a good mix, have one or the other and they taste really bitter, but have equel amounts of each and itll almost taste sweet, dont know how that is.

mines in secondary and still dropping sediment like crazy, why is everyone using so much lemon juice? i used 250ml jif in mine and it tastes too strong now its fermented.

nice pics, think that getting anything like smirnoff ice is gonna be hard for anyone as theres so much sugar sweetening them anyway that its almost like syrup, or mabe its just all chemicals.

At first I taught the lime was'nt a good idea when boiling the mixture as it smelt a bit over powering then it mellowed out nicely and I could just taste a hint of it. I dont think we'll get v close to Smirnoff ice but we could easily beat the shops own brand. I bought the Morrisons Lemon stuff the other day and it was very bitter.

BTW OG 1052

I think we should put some of each in a cup, drop in an iron nail and see which one dissolves it the quickest
I reckon a piece of liver would be better

go taste somerfields own brand, 660ml for 99p i think, not bad stuff, although gives you gutrot after 2 of them, should have been stronger for the quantity and flavor.

anyone fermented lemonade and put loads more sugar into it?

dave, it produces alot of sediment and crap, i prefer to use secondary in nearly all my brews because i dont like it sitting on the sediment for ages (heard it gives off flavors, although i bet that takes a while) also i dont have anything to clear my brews with at the moment so have to clear naturally, and i dont like bits  and also i want my brews to be as clear as possible, gives the impression to people who know nothing that my brews are of commercial quality... did i mention i hate bits? :D
