Re: Pimp my pizza.
I got one of those recently, its hard to get hot enough though to get the base really crisp while not burning the top. I have to preheat it in the oven a good 30 minutes to an hour at the highest heat and the house always smells like burning afterwards. It does make as close to authentic pizza you can get at home without specialist equipment.
I use the following dough recipe, you don't need a bread mixer, this is easy and takes just minutes to make.
500g strong white bread flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
7g dried yeast
1 1/2 tsp sugar
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
325ml lukewarm water
Sieve the flour and salt into a large bowl and make a well in the middle. In a measuring jug, mix the yeast, sugar and olive oil into the water and leave for a few minutes, then pour into the well of the flour mixture. Using a fork Gradually incorporate the flour sides and mix into the liquid. When it all starts to come together, work the rest of the flour in with your floured hands (make sure to wash them first ). Knead until you have a smooth, springy dough.
Place the dough in a flour dusted bowl and dust the top with flour then cover the bowl with cling film and place in a warm place until it doubles in size (about 30 minutes)
Once it has risen, place on a flour dusted surface and knock back the dough (Knead it a little bit to knock the air out). Roll out or toss the pizza into shape and top with you favourite toppings. Cook at 200c until cooked, about 8-10 minutes.
This recipe will make 3-4 medium pizzas.

|'m thinking of using it on my gas barbecue with the lid down shortly, I just have to replace the gas cylinder, I reckon I'll get it hot enough and very close to a proper forno.
Although I preheated it for an hour at 250 and it was pretty good.

.
That's a good idea. My mate built his own pizza oven in his yard. Said it was pretty easy. His pizza rocks apparently!
Re: Pimp my pizza.
I use a pizza stone and a similar dough recipe as posted by MM...
I pre heat my stone for 30-45 mins on the top shelf at 250(max)
I then turn the oven down to 240 and put in on a middle shelf to cook...
Base turns out crisp - as near as damn it to a returant pizza that uses a wood fired stone oven!
Enjoy!
I love to crack a raw egg on the top 3 mins before the pizza is done!!
MMM Pizza perfection!!

Re: Pimp my pizza.
Going to have to give this full heat thing a blast and try that dough recipe. Cheers.
Re: Pimp my pizza.
I like the egg trick myself, did it now with a calzone that I made for lunch with the left over stuff from yesterday. Very tasty.

Nice!
I've asked SWMBO to knock up a couple of pizza's for this evening.. (I'm working today...)
I'll get the camera ready, becasue she makes them look like a work of art...
When I make them its function over form....
Hmmm some of my lovely lager would go well with that, served in a frozen glass !
Slainte!
